Houston Food for Thought | March 8th Session Wrap-up

On March 8th, First3Years Houston engaged Dustin Rynders, Supervising Attorney with Disability Rights Texas, Stephanie Rubin, CEO of Texans Care for Children, and Kim Sporrer, with Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) of Easter Seals Greater Houston in a local conversation about the importance of Early Childhood Intervention services in the community, and in the state at large. Stephanie Rubin highlighted data and statistics from Texans Care for Children’s recent report Left Out. Specifically discussing regional disparities of ECI service agencies and low enrollment of children, despite an increase in the 0-3 child population in these areas. Dustin Rynders shared information about a recent suit DRTx won against HHSC regarding ECI services offered in East Texas. Kim Sporrer shared the importance of outreach and engagement as related to client referral, an area that is underfunded in the state.
